Man charged with “crucial role in smishing scheme” and drug trafficking avoids full-time gaol

Following an extensive Australian Federal Police (AFP) investigation into an alleged widespread organised crime syndicate, Suzanne Martinez appeared for our client in sentencing proceedings in the District Court Sydney in April and May 2022, following his pleas of guilty to serious Commonwealth offences of using a carriage service with intent to connect to a telecommunications network to facilitate commission of fraud [smishing] and in trafficking prohibited drugs.

Our client had already spent 7 months in prison on remand before Ms Martinez was able to secure him Supreme Court bail.

At the sentence hearing, Ms Martinez was able to persuade the sentencing Judge, that no further gaol-time was required to be served.
