Celebrating International Women’s Day 2025 at Conditsis Lawyers, where women in leadership roles are on the rise

The theme for International Women’s Day 2025 – ‘For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment’ – resonates deeply with Conditsis Lawyers. With approximately 80% of the firm’s team being women and a leadership structure that includes two female Associate Directors – representing half of the senior leadership team – and four female practice group team leaders, the firm stands as a beacon of progress for women in law, particularly in regional locations. Conditsis Lawyer’s commitment to equality and empowerment is evident not only in its leadership team, with the majority of leadership roles now held by women, but also in the supportive initiatives it champions for staff and the wider community.

A culture of flexibility and growth

Conditsis Lawyers understands that supporting women means providing real opportunities and practical support. The firm offers flexible working arrangements that allow working mothers to reintegrate into the workforce after maternity leave at a pace that suits them. For example, a solicitor currently on maternity leave will soon return one day a week, increasing to two days later in the year. Furthermore, one of the firm’s Associate Directors and Practice Group leaders works part-time to balance her career with her role as a wife and mother of three young children. The firm also supports team members in balancing university studies with their careers.

We are proud to support women in their professional careers, enabling them to balance their personal and professional lives. This commitment is reflected in the longevity of our staff, with four women having been with the firm for over a decade, including our longest-serving female staff member, Karen Charlton, who has been a part of the team for an impressive 30 years.” – Michal Mantaj, Director.

The firm’s commitment to empowering women extends beyond the office walls. For example, in December 2024, staff volunteered during lunch breaks to pack bags for Share the Dignity’s ‘It’s In The Bag’ drive for women and girls in need. This year, the firm is running an internal clothing drive in support of Because We Care Boutique, a local initiative dedicated to equipping women for re-entry into the workforce and court appearances. These initiatives embody the firm’s belief that empowerment is achieved through both forward-thinking policy and practical, community-driven action.

Celebrating trailblazers in leadership

Three outstanding professionals, in particular, serve as shining examples of Conditsis Lawyer’s commitment to empowering women in law.

Justine Dittel – Associate Director & General Manager

Joining Conditsis Lawyers in November 2020 as Marketing Director, Justine Dittel quickly demonstrated the unwavering enthusiasm and strategic acumen that propelled her into the role of General Manager. Her leadership has been integral to driving firm growth, instilling a culture of excellence and career growth across the organisation, implementing efficient work processes, overseeing major system transitions and managing change through multiple acquisitions. Justine was also pivotal in opening the Newcastle office – reinforcing the firm’s commitment to expansion and innovation – and in implementing an innovative solicitor bonus policy. Her outstanding contribution to the firm saw her promoted to Associate Director in December 2024, an incredible achievement, especially considering she only joined the firm four years ago in a senior marketing role.

“As a female leader, I believe that true empowerment comes from creating a culture where everyone has the opportunity to flourish, regardless of gender. At Conditsis Lawyers, we are committed to not only breaking down barriers but also to providing the support, flexibility, and resources needed to ensure that every woman can thrive in her career, family life, and beyond. International Women’s Day reminds us of the importance of this commitment, but it’s a commitment we uphold every day of the year.”

Michelle Bromfield – Associate Director & Practice Group Leader

Michelle Bromfield’s journey to becoming an Associate Director is a testament to her determination and resilience. A mother of three who works part-time, her passion for justice was ignited at the age of 14. Rising through the ranks from legal receptionist to licensed conveyancer – and ultimately earning her Law Degree while balancing family life – Michelle’s career is a shining example of overcoming systemic barriers. Today, as a respected leader and mentor, she ensures her team is supported and empowered to excel.

“To me, equality for women means reducing systemic barriers which hold women back, gauging individual circumstances and responding to these by providing women with the support they require to have the same opportunities to pursue their career dreams and reach their full potential. At Conditsis Lawyers, I feel fortunate to be in an environment where I am respected, heard and given the tools and resources to excel.”– Michelle Bromfield

Kayla Nielsen – Criminal Law Team Leader, Newcastle Office

Kayla Nielsen’s remarkable progression – from part-time law clerk in 2022/23 to criminal lawyer, and now as the recently promoted Criminal Law Team Leader in Newcastle – is an inspiring story of initiative, dedication and leadership. Recognised for her outstanding contributions, Kayla is a finalist in the Criminal Law category of the 2025 Lawyers Weekly 30 Under 30 Awards for the second consecutive year. Her track record speaks volumes: from being the second highest Criminal Law fee earner in 2024 to significantly increasing the number and value of matters opened in the Newcastle office, her achievements highlight a steadfast commitment to excellence.

“While there are now more female solicitors than male in many jurisdictions, there is an ongoing fight for fairness in the legal profession. It is so important that women have the confidence and support to advocate not only for others but also for themselves, asserting their worth and breaking barriers that have traditionally held women back.” – Kayla Nielsen

A Future Where No One Is Left Behind

For Conditsis Lawyers, International Women’s Day is more than a date on the calendar. It’s a reaffirmation of the firm’s promise to champion rights, equality and empowerment for all women and girls. Through flexible work policies, robust mentorship programs and community-focused initiatives, the firm continues to promote an environment in which every team member, male or female, can thrive. Its female-dominant workforce and visionary female leadership team exemplify a commitment to breaking down barriers and redefining success in a traditionally male-dominated field.

“At Conditsis Lawyers, we believe that true progress comes from creating and supporting an environment where the rights, equality, and empowerment of all women are not just recognised but actively championed. This year’s International Women’s Day theme, ‘For ALL women and girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment,’ perfectly reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting women at every stage of their careers. We are proud to foster a workplace where women are empowered to grow, lead, and succeed – without having to compromise on their personal aspirations or family commitments.” – Manny Conditsis, Director.

Not just on March 8 but every day, the firm invites other law firms and the community to join them in building a feminist future where every woman’s potential is recognised, nurtured and celebrated.
